| All aboard! The happy passengers line up in anticipation of ‘traveling’ on Bob Horne’s Suncoast Railway. In the dining car everyone enjoyed exchanging stories of the good old days of train travel while munching on Bob’s luncheon served up especially for HSOSC. After a brief end-of-season meeting, during which the Nominating Committee slate of board members was approved, Bob Horne spoke on his restoration efforts and told stories of the Ringlings’ railroading days with the circus. |

All aboard the trolley! The State Historic Preservation Conference held in Sarasota was pronounced as the biggest and best ever. Contributing to its success were many volunteers from the Historical Society. Pictured, Mikki Hartig, Jane Kirschner-Tuccillo,
Ryan Chapdelaine, City Senior Neighborhood Planner, and Sue Blue, narrator for the Downtown Historic Sarasota Trolley Tour

| Artist Margaret Bering has donated a watercolor rendition of the Crocker Church and Bidwell-Wood House to HSOSC to be auctioned at an upcoming fundraiser. Ms. Bering’s latest works, which include many downtown historic homes, can be viewed at the Women’s Resource Center on Tuttle Avenue. The Historical Society Board and our members thank the artist for sharing her talent that will benefit our efforts. |

EXTRA! EXTRA! READ ALL ABOUT IT!
The 2007 jury found Alfred Bidwell NOT GUILTY! The dramatic re-telling of the actual 1885 Bidwell trial was staged in the restored 1928 courtroom at Sarasota County Courthouse on the evening of May 19. Pictured below is the cast and director, Sue Blue, who is patiently (?) waiting to start the one and only rehearsal. The cast included Harold Bubil, Tom Lyons, Welch Whitesel, Thorning Little, Marjorie North, Tom Hudson, Lou Ann Palmer, Kim Ogilvie, Jon Thaxton, Alex Lancaster, and Dr. Iren J. Pober. |

Before the trial the audience was treated to “period-inspired” heavy hors d’oeuvres and drinks, good old down- home country music and after-trial ‘just desserts’. The Historical Society is particularly grateful to the Center Pointe Building, Sarasota County, Advanced Audio Design, Sarasota Architectural Salvage, Zest! Of Sarasota, Wine Warehouse, The Players Theater, Sacino’s Formalwear, The Glass Slipper, Peter Paul Gallery, Valerie Wadsworth our Platinum Sponsor and Welch and Virginia Whitesel, our Gold Sponsors.
The Historical Society Board and the Membership thanks ( with shock and awe) goes to Beth Boyce “Event Chair” who put this whole thing together. Beth is one incredible lady.

Our heartfelt condolences are extended to Mr. And Mrs. Victor Liberi and Denise Liberi the parents and daughter of Rick Liberi, recently deceased. Rick loved “old Sarasota” history. Acknowledgement of his lifelong interest was reflected by the donations sent by family and friends to the Rick Liberi Memorial Fund benefiting the work of the Historical Society of Sarasota County. We are most grateful. |
